Vehicles & Parts

Ex-military Land Rovers — Wolf, Defender and classic Series — along with the specialists who keep them running and the dealers who sell whole vehicles straight out of MoD disposal. For some military-spec components, parts from decommissioned vehicles are the only source.

4.3 — Field notes

Before you buy

  • Buying a whole vehicle? Check whether it has a UK registration document (V5C) or whether you'll need to register it with the DVLA yourself. Ask for the disposal paperwork trail too.
  • Genuine MoD-sourced parts, NOS (new old stock) and pattern reproductions all get sold as "military spec". Only the first two actually came off an MoD contract.
  • NSN classes are handy when hunting parts: 2320 wheeled vehicles, 2530 brakes/steering/axles, 2540 vehicle accessories, 2920 engine electrics.
  • Check whether lights, markings and fittings have been made road-legal, or whether that's left to you.
